Teenagers need to be look aftered when they come to this age, from physical needs to emotional needs, therefore it is important to keep a track of what is happening in their lives. There a specific changed that occur in teenagers lives, which can be helped by their diet.
Tips for teenage girls:
· Make sure you balance your energy levels
· Stay more active during the teen age
· Consume more calcium, so pile up on milk, cheese and yogurt
· Have at least five portions of fruit or vegetables a day
· Due to the start of periods at lot of iron is lost from your body, and iron is vital in your body, try to eat more potatoes, liver, beans, oats etc
Tips for teenage boys:
· Have less fast food, as they do not contain any of the essential stuff such as calcium, iron or vitamins. If you have to eat out, try the healthier options like pasta or whole wheat sandwiches
· Try to have the right amount of protein, do no over do it, as this can interfere with the calcium metabolism which in later life can lead to osteoporosis
· Due to the build up of muscle, it is important to increase the intake of iron by eating foods such as potatoes, dried fruit, dark green vegetables and beans
· Zinc is crucial in the body, so try and eat more fish and shellfish on a weekly basis
